The original version of this website, which was known as ‘Out of Oblivion,’ was produced in 2004 with grant aid from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The site is owned and maintained by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA).

Original texts were researched, written and edited by Karen Griffiths, the then YDNPA Interpretation Officer, with contributions from Heather Beaumont, Ian Dormor, David Johnson, Don McLellan, Martin Roe and Robert White.  Additional help came from the Dales Volunteers.

In 2022 work started on the website to make it compatible with the platform which is now used for the main Yorkshire Dales National Park website. This work was overseen by Wendy McDonnell, Digital Communications officer for the National Park.  Karen Griffiths was responsible for checking, editing and enhancing the website.  New material resulting from the Westmorland Dales Landscape Project was added by Hannah Kingsbury and Amanda Walters, Cultural Heritage officer and Interpretation officer for WDLP respectively. Project delivery was overseen by Sarah Whiteley, Senior Historic Environment Officer for the YDNPA.

Finally, thanks must go to all those archaeologists and historians who have studied and written about the archaeological sites and historic landscape of the Yorkshire Dales over many years – in particular to those who have helped develop the National Park Authority’s Historic Environment Record. This site could not have been produced without them.
