Villages throughout the country were provided with stocks for the punishment of minor offenders from at least Medieval times. The stocks at Bainbridge are located on the village green. They may date to the 17th century and are constructed of stone and wood although the timber is a modern replacement. The stone pillars at the sides hold a fixed timber bottom plank with a moveable plank above with two leg holes. The adjacent boulder was apparently used as a seat.

Location

Stocks lie on village green in centre of Bainbridge on west side of A684.
