Boer War Memorial, Sedbergh School MYD35945

This unusual memorial was built c1902-05 to commemorate 8 former pupils of Sedbergh School who died in the second South African War (1899-1902). It is made from red sandstone and has a square plan. The panels on the base each have two bands of raised lettering in Arts and Crafts style giving the names and units of the fallen, with the dates and places of their deaths. One of them, R J T Digby Jones, was awarded the Victoria Cross.

Location

In Sedbergh take Loftus Hill road south toward Sedbergh School Chapel. Memorial lies in school grounds on right side of road 40 metres before chapel and next to Bursar's Office. Viewable through railings.
