Hebden washdub
Description

Hebden washdub MYD36562 (c) YDNPA, 2023
A series of two small enclosures on High Green was used by Hebden farmers to pen sheep ready to be washed in the pool or dub next to it. In the days before chemical sheep dip, sheep had their fleeces ‘salved’ with grease (often butter) and Stockholm tar to keep parasites away. Before the fleece could be clipped and sold the salve had to be washed out in order to get a better price. The enclosure has been carefully restored by the Parish Council.
