Description
Cautley barrow MYD3602 (c) YDNPA, 2023
A probable Bronze Age cairn built of loose stone with little turf cover and a central depression probably caused by later stone robbing. It measures 9 metres in diameter and is 0.8 metres high. It lies on a gentle south east facing slope below the summit of the mid-valley ridge. There are some slight clearance cairns in the same area and to the north, but this larger cairn is considered to have been used for burial.

Location
Take A683 east from Sedbergh for about 4 miles to Cross Keys Hotel, Cautley. Just beyond hotel, take public bridleway on left hand side of road signed to 'Cautley Spout'. Cross over footbridge and turn left on well-made path alongside river. Continue on a public footpath past a turning to another footbridge until reach an interpretation panel (about 3/4 mile from road). Continue toward Cautley Spout on well-made path for about 500 metres, crossing a stream, then up rising ground. Cairn can be seen on top of a grassy hillock to left of path as you approach. Turn left across grassy top of hillock, cairn lies about 50 metres south east of path.Public Transport Details

Steep steps down to footbridge and handgate. Well-made path for 3/4 mile from road then stream crossing and rougher going uphill after that.
