Calverside Moor enclosure
Description

Calverside Moor enclosure from the air MYD36580 (c) YDNPA, 2023
Evidence for Neolithic occupation is hard to identify in the Yorkshire Dales. However, the settled lifestyle of these early farmers is likely to have required places to protect stock and a circular earth and stone-banked enclosure on Calverside in Swaledale may well be just such a place. It is as yet undated, but it is cut by a Bronze Age co-axial field boundary and so is a very good candidate for being Neolithic.
