Clarkson memorial MYD34970 (c) YDNPA, 2023

A late 18th century vertical slab tombstone made from pink sandstone located in the graveyard of Grinton church. The slab is about 1 metre high and half a metre across. It has a half relief carving on the top of a crowned head flanked by winged putti, with cross bones below. It commemorates Richard Clarkson, but his year of death is undecipherable.

Location

The memorial is in the churchyard of St Andrew's, Grinton. It is situated near the south east corner of the churchyard. The church lies at the junction of roads to Reeth, Richmond and Leyburn.
