Parish milestone, Howgill MYD36597 (c) YDNPA, 2023

An old milestone possibly set up after legislation in the late 17th and early 18th century required parishes to erect guideposts to the next market town for the benefit of travellers. This example is set into the wall along Howgill Lane, part of the old market and lead route between Skipton and Pateley Bridge. The stone is inscribed ‘To Pateley Bridge M6’.
