Deposits in this cave were excavated in the late 19th century and then again in 1920. The cave seems to have been occupied and used as a burial place during the late Neolithic and Bronze Age. Several inhumations (skeleton burials) and one cremation were found along with hearths and fragments of pottery vessels. Finds from the excavation are on display at the Craven Museum, Skipton.
