When Grimwith Reservoir was built, this important early barn was moved and rebuilt in order to preserve it. Unlike the majority of stone barns in the Yorkshire Dales, this one is cruck-built using massive timbers to create A-shaped frames. The stone walls would have been added many years later once the original timber or wattle and daub walls had rotted. The roof has been re-thatched using heather just as it would have been originally. The barn probably dates to sometime in the 17th century and is a rare survival.

Location

From Hebden take the B6265 travelling east for 2 miles. Turn left into lane signed 'Grimwith Reservoir'. After nearly a mile there is a free car park. Take track from the east end of the car park. The track passes the barn after a mile. No public access inside barn.

Accessibility

Access to the track from the car park is through a wheelchair friendly kissing gate. Track is well-surfaced and fairly smooth.
