Haw Bank cremation cemetery MYD4264 (c) YDNPA, 2023
A sub-circular enclosure approximately 24 metres by 28 metres surrounded by an earth and stone bank about 3 metres wide and 0.4 metres high. Almost central within the enclosure are the remains of a stony mound 0.2 metres high and 6 metres in diameter. Originally described as a stone circle, this is now thought to be an enclosed cremation cemetery of Bronze Age date. In England, such cemeteries tended to replace the barrow and cairn burials of the early Bronze Age.
