Hubberholme Bridge MYD34451 (c) YDNPA, 2023

A mid- to late 19th century gritstone bridge over the River Wharfe. It has a single arch with radiating voussoirs and projecting parapet coping. The parapets terminate in domed bollards. Until the 18th century, it is claimed that this bridge was an important crossing point of the Wharfe for the main routeway between Lancaster and Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In 1693 it is recorded as being in “great ruine and decay” in spite of its importance. It was rebuilt in 1734 and its present size reflects the reduced traffic using it after that date.
