Linton packhorse bridge MYD27430 (c) YDNPA 2023

A pedestrian or packhorse bridge aligned to carry a route towards Burnsall along the south bank of the Wharfe. Also known as ‘Redmayne Bridge’ after Elizabeth Redmayne who reputedly paid for repairs in the late 17th century. Experts however have dated the present bridge to the late 17th or early 18th century with later repairs. It is constructed of gritstone rubble with larger blocks forming the parapets. There is a single shallow arch with a small flood arch to the east. The bridge was superseded by a late 19th century bridge carrying traffic towards the river crossing at Grassington.
