A system of aqueducts to bring water to Sedbergh was constructed in the 1890s or later. The pipe tracks are still clearly visible on the flanks of Crook, Sickers Fell and the Knott. Iron pipes can be seen in some places as well as associated stone and concrete structures, air valves and timber fittings. A quarry associated with the construction of this system is situated on the east flank of Winder above Settlebeck Gill and about 300 metres north east of the site of the reservoir.

Location

Take Joss Lane north in centre of Sedbergh and follow round for 350 metres to gate and start of public footpath signed to 'the Fell'. Cross field to squeeze stile and gate and continue uphill to iron kissing gate leading onto fell. Turn left and follow alongside field wall for about 300 metres. Site of reservoir can be seen over wall in field below as large flat rectangular embanked area. Total distance from Joss Lane 450 metres.
