Stock underbridge, Lambert Lane MYD36352 (c) YDNPA, 2023

A hump in the track shows where a drystone culvert or underbridge has been built under Lambert Lane near Settle. It runs between two fields and allows stock to pass between them to reach water without having to be moved via the road. The passageway is lined with coursed stones and roofed with wide stone slabs. The size of the underbridge suggests that it may have been used for cattle as well as sheep since traditional cattle breeds were smaller than today’s more common continental breeds.
