West Burton Obelisk
Description
Market cross of coursed rubble stone, stone slabs and ashlar (finely dressed stone). It has an octagonal plan. About two-thirds of the way up the shaft is an ashlar band with a Maltese cross incised on each side along with the words ‘Erected’ ‘1820’ and ‘Restored’ ‘1889’. On the top is a stone ball finial and weather vane, added during the 1889 restoration.
