Description

This bridge over the River Ure was designed and built by John Carr of York in 1793. Carr was principal surveyor of bridges for the North Riding from 1772 to 1803. Yore Bridge is constructed of rubble and ashlar (finely dressed) stone. It has three segmental arches and triangular cutwaters on the upstream side only. Inside the upstream parapet is a stone inscribed with a benchmark and “N Y R” for the North Riding of Yorkshire.

From A684 through Bainbridge, take road heading north signed to Askrigg. Road crosses bridge about 400 metres from junction with A684.
